5 BEST Thermic Foods That Will Boost Your Metabolism
Share
If you’ve never heard of thermic foods, they’re insane!
Thermic foods are foods that require your body to use more energy to digest the food than they take to eat.
They work for your waistline by increasing your metabolism, and put a lot of nutrients into your body.
The metabolic effects are temporary, so you’ll need a solid game plan to change your lifestyle long-term.
If you need help from a lifestyle perspective, you can check out my book that can help you start living healthy here.
The results will also vary depending on your age, activity level, meal size, macronutrients, and the frequency of your meals.
These 5 foods are the best high-thermic, fat-burning foods to increase your metabolism.
Benefits of Thermic Foods
First, thermic foods are going to help you stay full longer.
Not only that, but your risk of conditions like Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and certain types of cancers could be decreased by eating them.
You’re going to have more energy throughout the day because these foods help control blood sugar levels and prevent insulin spikes.
Having more energy later in the day will improve your sleep because you’re using fewer caffeinated pick-me-ups in the afternoon.
Your digestion improves because these foods keep you satisfied, which means there are fewer carbs and calories going in.
These foods also support a good microbiome for a stronger immune system.
5. Avocados
Half of an avocado has 16 grams of fat, which you may think is a lot to take in.
But what makes avocados a high-thermic food is their high magnesium content.
90% of the people reading this are deficient in magnesium, and it plays a crucial role in absorbing other nutrients.
Magnesium also helps run the muscles, regulates digestion, controls blood sugar, and activates an enzyme that stimulates adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production.
ATP is our energy powerhouse that provides energy to all of the cells in our body.
Avocados are full of a bunch of other nutrients as well, and are very thermic.
They’ve also been linked to a reduced risk of metabolic syndrome.
There was a study done over an 8 year-period that found that avocados lower your risk of blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart disease-related issues, and type-2 diabetes.
4. Eggs
Eggs are a clean, healthy alternative to meat, and give you great proteins and fats.
Eggs are very rich in iodine, which we often lack. Iodine helps the thyroid, which makes eggs even more advantageous as a thermic food.
Eggs also contain every single essential amino acid, which makes them a complete protein.
They’re high in Vitamin D, which we can all use a little more of.
They’re also high in vitamin E, which is the mother of all antioxidants, so eggs are going to protect against the free radical damage that can happen inside of your body.
Eggs are high in choline, which is a very important nutrient, especially as it relates to B vitamins.
They’re high in iron, which a lot of us lack. An iron deficiency could be the reason you’re having energy issues.
Eggs are necessary for metabolic health.
When buying eggs, make sure they’re pasture-raised, not just cage-free, because then the hens that laid them are eating what they’re supposed to.
3. Beans & Legumes
Lentils, black beans, chickpeas, and green peas are all excellent sources of plant-based protein.
They have high fiber content that helps reduce insulin spikes and keep your blood sugar leveled out.
That fiber slows down digestion so you can absorb food more fully, which benefits your gut and its microbiome.
My favorite are black beans, which might be the most thermic because they have a high amount of magnesium.
That magnesium is going to drive energy usage and production.
2. Coffee
Organic coffee contains a compound called chlorogenic acid, which aids in the regulation of blood sugar.
The caffeine in coffee stimulates your sympathetic nervous system, which is what gives you that coffee buzz, and it also helps stimulate the breakdown of fat.
Coffee can also be a good appetite suppressant.
If you’re getting hungry and want a mid-morning snack, try drinking a cup of coffee to help you feel full and prevent you from overeating.
Coffee has many other benefits from an antioxidant perspective, but organic coffee in the right form is thermogenic, and is going to crank up fat-burning in your body.
You want to get your coffee organic to cut out the pesticides, fertilizers, and other toxins that can come with it.
1. Moringa
I like to have moringa in the morning with my coffee, and I call it the miracle tree.
Moringa has so many benefits, I don’t have enough space to type them all out.
When it comes to being thermogenic, moringa leaves have loads of antioxidants, including more of that chlorogenic acid found in coffee.
Moringa aids in weight loss and acts like a fat-burner to help normalize blood sugar, while also having an anti-aging effect.
Results from a study indicate that moringa can significantly reduce body weight without any changes in eating or diet.
It also acts like a hypolipidemic and thermogenic nutrient, meaning it’s breaking down fat and stimulating your body to burn up fat, especially in those that are overweight.
Moringa is the best, and that’s exactly why I combined it with organic coffee to get a thermogenic effect every morning.
