How To Fix Bad Nutrition [3 Keys]
Share
Today I’m going to be taking pages out of our brand new nutrition guide, Make Food Simple, to teach you how to fix bad nutrition and reveal hidden sources of sugar and discuss cellular congestion and GMO’s!
So… here are the 3 key things everyone needs to know when attempting to fix bad nutrition!
1. Cut Sugar
There are literally over 60 hidden names of sugar! Sugar is just as addictive as cocaine1, so food companies are hiding it in everything2 so you buy more! When trying to cut sugar – focus on eating lower glycemic fruits like berries, granny smith apples, grapefruit, lemons & limes.
Hidden Sources of Sugar
Usually, these sneaky sugar names end in “ose” including:
- Dextrose
- Fructose
- Galactose
- Glucose
- Lactose
- Maltose
- Sucrose
Also be aware of anything that has “syrup” in the ingredient, or fruit juice including:
- Malt Syrup
- Rice Syrup
- Corn Syrup (especially High Fructose Corn Syrup)
- Cane juice
- Fruit Juice Concentrate
Maltodextrin is another hidden sugar that can be found in a lot of supplements and even some sugar alternatives like Stevia. Honey and maple syrup would be included even though they are the more natural sugars that you can have occasionally after you’ve completed a sugar fast.
2. Cellular Congestion
Healthy cells = healthy humans. If the cells start to get congested, that’s when it becomes a problem. Fat surrounds your cells and creates a healthy layer of protection that allows nutrition in, and allows toxins out. Good fat vs. bad fat is a key component to understand in determining what makes a cell healthy.
The smooth layer of fat protection around the cell is from good, healthy fats. When bad fats are a large part of the diet, this layer ends up getting clogged and congested. This creates a barrier where nutrients are not flowing in – and toxins are restricted from getting out of the cell.
3. GMO’s
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) in food is somewhat of a controversial topic these days. Do we really need to care that much about it? One simple question to ask yourself would be: if you’re putting genetically modified food into your body, what do you think happens to YOUR genetic makeup?
How to Identify GMO Foods
DID YOU KNOW? – Grocery stores label their produce with pricing codes that they can refer to when you checkout. These codes will also tell you if the food is organic, conventionally grown, or genetically modified!
5-digit Code (starting with 9) = ORGANIC
4-digit Code (starting with 3 or 4) = CONVENTIONAL
5-digit Code (starting with 8) = GENETICALLY MODIFIED
Make it easy by becoming familiar with the Clean 15 & Dirty Dozen list that tells you which foods have the greatest amount of pesticides3 and toxins and which have the least, so that you know which to buy organic.
