1 Dose a Day Reduces Heart Disease and Breast Cancer Deaths by 80%
Share
Whenever research shows something that can reduce heart disease and breast cancer by 80%, I pay attention and dig into it, and I want to share it with you.
A new study by the University of Kansas that was published by the American Heart Association found that having low levels of vitamin D is associated with a high risk of heart attack and early death.
They found that taking doses of it on a daily basis can significantly reduce the amount of deaths from heart-related conditions.
You can easily measure your levels when you get your next physical or blood work done.
I’m going to go over the huge health benefits of vitamin D, and how you can raise your levels if they’re too low.
Benefits of Vitamin D
Taking an optimal dose of vitamin D once a day lowers the risk of early death by 80% for heart-related cases.
Scientists compared those people who had the lowest levels (15 or below) of measured vitamin D, which is about 5% of the population, to the 50% of people with normal levels of 50 or above.
They found that declining levels of vitamin D resulted in increased levels of heart problems and early death.
Those with the lowest levels of vitamin D in their blood had a 64% higher risk of heart attacks, 57% higher risk of early death, 40% higher risk of ischemic heart disease, and at least an 81% increased risk of death from heart disease.
They also found that people who were deficient in vitamin D were twice as likely to develop diabetes.
People with low vitamin D levels were also 40% more likely to have high blood pressure and had a 30% higher chance of having weak heart muscles.
When you measure them, your vitamin D levels have to be between 50 and below 100, with 50-70 being the ideal range.
Vitamin D Lowers Cancer Risk
A researcher out of the University of New York at Albany found that breast cancer cells can shrivel up and die when treated with vitamin D.
Vitamin D gets into the cells and triggers the cell death process. It’s not able to get all types of cancer cells, but she found that at least half of them died within a few days.
Researchers also injected vitamin D into mice with breast cancer cells, and after several weeks of treatment, the cancerous cells shrank by an average of 50%.
The shocking news is that if you get your vitamin D level above 50, research shows you lower your breast cancer risk by 80% and colon cancer risk by 60%.
These are massive numbers that would save a lot of lives if we properly measured vitamin D levels when we got a physical.
How to Raise Vitamin D Levels
If you need to get more vitamin D in your system, vitamin D3 would be the one to focus on.
Vitamin D2 is synthetic and doesn’t have the same impact on the immune system that vitamin D3 does.
Vitamin D2 also increases the death rate over time according to studies in older women.
Vitamin D3 decreases mortality over time in older women, so there is a striking difference there.
D3 is the one that comes from the sun, so that would be the best source of it.
You can also get it from salmon and egg yolks, but oftentimes we have to supplement, especially during the winter when the sun is gone.
If you’re supplementing for D3, I recommend taking 4,000 IUs per day. If your numbers are very low, or you’re below 30-50, I would double that to 8,000 a day.
What To Take Vitamin D With
There’s a way to get 244% more absorption of vitamin D that a lot of people don’t know about, and it’s taking it with vitamin K2 and magnesium.
Magnesium is responsible for activating vitamin D so that your body can use it, so you’re bolstering your immune system.
Vitamin K2 helps keep the balance of calcium in your body.
Zinc and probiotics also help the absorption of vitamin D, and vitamin D is fat-soluble, so it must be taken with fat.
You need to understand how to take vitamin D so you don’t harm yourself and increase your levels.
I made a video that can tell you why you should stop taking vitamin D until you understand certain things about it, which you can watch here.
