Anything “Fat-Free”
The “fat-free” craze started about 30-40 years ago in an attempt to combat heart disease. The problem is that when you remove the fat, the food will not taste as good.
So how do you fix that? By adding sugar! In other words, the fats are replaced by carbohydrates!
And guess what happened with heart disease? It continued.
It’s important to understand the difference between real fat and fake/toxic fat, and more toxic fat is definitely not the solution here!
Beyond Meat / Meat Alternatives
First, these types of food often have rancid/hydrogenated oils that end up congesting your system. Secondly, you’re going to find a lot of genetically modified ingredients, as well as a lot of sugars and carbohydrates to make it taste edible.
My suggestion is to stick with the real thing (ideally organic). Or, if you choose not to eat meat, don’t try to substitute it.
Tofu
Continuing on the subject of meat substitutions, tofu is another food mistakenly labeled “healthy”.
Although there are companies that have worked to make healthier versions of this, you’re still going to find a GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)-ridden form of “alternative” meat.
GMOs, in turn, have been tied to many diseases inside of the body because, essentially, you’re consuming altered DNA. Think about it…
If you’re regularly consuming food with altered DNA, what do you think that will do to your DNA over time?
These chemicals build up in the system over time and create gut problems like leaky gut, autoimmune-related disorders, and inflammation.
So, instead of tofu, just stick to vegetables, beans, etc. Aka, the real stuff.
Fruit Juice
Did you know that most fruit juice has 22-40 grams of sugar per glass? That’s 2-4 tablespoons of sugar or more depending on how big the glass is.
As a comparison, the daily recommended amount of sugar is about 24 grams, so just with that one glass, you’re likely to surpass that.
The problem with fruit juice is that when you strip out the fiber, you’re now negating the anti-sugar effect that the whole fruit naturally has. So, a better option would be to eat the fruit itself because it still contains fiber.
To top it off, a lot of juices are from concentrate and/or have added sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup, which will destroy the liver. What then happens is that the liver has to process this overload of sugar which will then turn into fat. This then develops into a fatty liver and high triglycerides.
Gatorade
Boy, have they branded this drink well! As a kid, I had a lot of this stuff. Every sporting event I went to had it!
The problem? It’s loaded with sugar. Just a 20-ounce bottle has 24 grams of sugar and delicious artificial colorings, which can lead to concentration problems and hyperactivity. It also has artificial flavorings (aka, chemicals).
Then, if you go for the diet version, you’re now consuming neurotoxins (poisons that act on the nervous system).
Although Gatorade does have electrolytes (great for athletes), they are the synthetic type. In short, there are
better, healthier ways of replenishing electrolytes such as with sea salt or other natural sources.
“Sugar-Free” and “Diet” Drinks
We think we’re doing ourselves a favor by drinking the “diet” or “skinny” version of a drink, but in reality, these drinks are full of neurotoxins. Again, neurotoxins are poisons that harm the nervous system and have been connected to hyperactivity disorders, allergies, neurodegenerative conditions, etc.
These drinks contain highly toxic chemicals that are linked to an array of health issues. In fact, I’ve advised patients of mine to stop drinking diet soda / skinny drinks and as a result, their joint health improved because the inflammation goes away.
Nutella
Tastes incredible, but the ingredients are not worth it.
First is palm oil, which has the potential to be rancid and is usually inhumanely sourced.
Next up is skim milk powder, which is basically fat-free milk with added sugar. This dairy isn’t organic either, which means it’s going to have added hormones and antibiotics.
After that is cacao, which is the only close-to-healthy ingredient since it’s packed with antioxidants. However, this cacao is more than likely alkalized, which means it’s stripped of nutrients and will contain some rancidity depending on the way they made it.
Then we have hazel nuts which, if they’ve been roasted, they’ll be rancid.
And lastly, sugar. One-third of a Nutella container is sugar. Basically diabetes in a jar. One scoop of Nutella is the equivalent of eating five Oreos, so you might as well just have the Oreos. But, honestly? Don’t do the Oreos either.
Yogurt
This one is controversial because a lot of people love their yogurt as a source of probiotics and wholeheartedly believe that they are doing their digestive tract a favor.
However, the reality is that yogurt contains very few of the natural strains of good bacteria our body needs. Fermented foods like sauerkraut would go a lot further as far as probiotics go.
Yogurt is also packed with sugar, both from naturally-occurring sugars (due to the lactose) and added sugar. Depending on the brand, you’ll find anywhere between 4-10 grams of sugar per ounce. Greek yogurt is only slightly less than this.
Cheerios
I’ve been talking about this one for a while because it’s been taught and promoted that Cheerios are beneficial for heart health. As I have in the past (like in
this video and
this one), I could name a ton of other heart-healthy foods that are far better than Cheerios.
Cheerios are loaded with carbohydrates because it’s coming from a grain. That alone opens up a whole plethora of different problems because that grain is sprayed with glyphosate (a chemical-ridden herbicide), which is a known gut destroyer.
In fact, Monsanto, the maker of glyphosate and Roundup,
has been sued for millions because that chemical was found to cause cancer, among other lawsuits.
In other words, besides consuming chemicals with every bite of Cheerios, we’re also spiking our insulin levels, which is not the direction you want to go when it comes to heart health. Excess sugar in any form is going to hit the liver and potentially raise triglyceride levels.
With Cheerios, we’re also dealing, once again, with GMOs which are potentially altering our DNA with foreign chemicals.
Granola Bars
I loved these as a kid, especially those chewy granola bars. These things are sugar bombs that open you up to an array of different health problems.
Depending on the brand, many of these bars contain 3-6 teaspoons of sugar per bar (about 12-24 grams).
You’ll also find rancid oils in granola bars. As a rule of thumb, if it doesn’t say olive oil or coconut oil, it’s going to be a rancid oil.
GMOs are also present in granola bars.
You’ll also often find rice protein or some type of grain, both of which will spike insulin levels, which you don’t want when you’re addressing things like metabolic disease/ diabetes, blood pressure or cholesterol problems, etc.
Ensure
“Ensure” is a great way to “ensure” poor health. It is incredibly toxic stuff.
Yes, it’ll help replenish calories for someone who might need it, but this would be the last thing I’d suggest giving someone who is struggling to keep weight on.
It also contains four to six different types of sugar including artificial sweeteners linked to brain issues, allergies, etc. It also contains two different types of rancid oils and a bunch of synthetic vitamins.
Canola Oil
Canola oil comes from what’s called rapeseed. This rapeseed is highly processed and heated to extreme temperatures so that the oil can be extracted from it. The processing involves denaturing the oil which makes it rancid.
When you consume canola oil, the body then tries to use it to build new cells. However, since the body doesn’t recognize the structure of it, it will essentially congest your arteries and toxify you. It's also going to make it hard to lose weight and will mess with the fluid inside of your body.
Not to mention, this very toxic process of denaturing includes hexane, which is a derivative of gasoline. They also deodorize it because it smells pretty bad (otherwise no one would consider consuming it).
A better option would be coconut oil or olive oil.
Margarine
The process of making margarine is outstanding. In short, they have to bleach it, deodorize it, and add artificial flavoring and coloring so that it resembles and tastes/smells like real butter.
What you’re really consuming are rancid oils (usually soybean oil) and GMOs can do a number on your hormones (both male and females). Because there’s so much processing, it gets exposed to a ton of heavy metals.
My suggestion is to get it out of your fridge and throw it directly into the garbage because even ants won’t eat it.
