5 Simple Hacks for Breaking Plateaus
If you are struggling with losing weight, here are five ways that you can break the plateau. Let’s dive in!
Steak
What do I mean by steak being a number-one plateau breaker? Your body starts to retain water over time. If you have a large meal of protein, it will help counterbalance that, flushing the system of the excess water. This will tip the scales. It’s not a long-term strategy. You shouldn’t be eating steak for every meal. I do not want you to hear that. But what I want you to know is that if you are hitting a roadblock, a great way to jumpstart your weight loss again is through a “Steak Day.”
What you do is you fast the majority of the day, and have a big steak in the evening. You can cook it on the grill, or on the stove in coconut oil. Pair it with either a tomato or apple for dessert. This is a great way to flush the system, rebalance it, and get that weight loss going again.
Water
Many of you are not drinking enough water. You ask, “How much do I need?” You need to drink half of your body weight in ounces on a daily basis. Putting water into the system flushes toxins out and aids in weight loss. A study of overweight women examined the effects of increasing water intake to over 1 liter (34 oz) per day. They found that over a 12-month period, this resulted in an extra 4.4 lbs of weight loss.
Check your water intake. You might not be getting enough water to flush your body. Use fresh, filtered water, or reverse osmosis alkaline water if you’re detoxing. There are many good options out there, but make sure you do some level of purification to get the water as clean as it can possibly be.
Drink your body weight in ounces. Put it in a glass container instead of plastic so that there are fewer toxins. Carry it around with you everywhere you go. Put ice cubes or lemon in it to help you drink more of it. Drink more water, and lose more weight!
McDonald’s
Who doesn’t love this blog now that the third way to break your weight loss is McDonald’s? I don’t actually mean that you should eat McDonald’s. I’m talking about American beef, and McDonald’s is probably one of its primary sources. It is actually loaded with much more fat than beef from other parts of the world. It has more fat than poultry or fish, so if you can take out the American beef, you decrease the toxic fats that are going into your system.
A study in the International Journal of Obesity found that the use of steroid hormones in conventional dairy farming and meat production could be a contributor to the obesity epidemic.
You are not what you eat, you are what you eat, ate.
What’s done to the cow ends up in the human that eats it. So if it is full of chemicals and poor nutrition, like burgers at McDonald’s, it toxifies your system. It’s causing you to hold on to a lot more weight. It’s putting a lot of toxic fat into your body which must be metabolized. So cut the beef out. Replace it with all-natural chicken or fish. This is a good way to break a plateau and get that scale moving down.
Sleep
Sleep might be why you’re not losing enough weight. Don’t you love this list so far? You can eat steaks. McDonald’s is on here, and now more sleep.
Rest more. Rest your adrenals. Let your system calm down. Allow it to heal, lose weight and burn energy the way it’s supposed to do. A lot of people are taxing their system so hard that their bodies are just trying to keep up. A lack of sleep could drive more emotional eating.
There are a lot of reasons why sleep leads to a lot more weight gain. So get more rest with at least six to eight hours of quality sleep per night.
Apples
Have an “Apple Day.” I love apples. Green ones are the best, with the lowest amount of sugar. You can also eat red ones. During an apple day, you will only eat, you guessed it, apples.
Consume six large green or red apples throughout the day. It’s going to help the system flush excess fluids and help to reset the balance that the body needs. This will help level it out and move the scale.
You don’t want to eat apples all day every day. That’s not what I’m saying. But you can use them to break through your weight loss and it’s a delicious way to do it!
Summary
A steak day, lots more water, cutting American beef, more rest, and a day full of only eating apples will get the scale going downward for you, the way you want it to go. If you’ve hit a plateau, it’s time to get to work and it’s easier than you think!
