Condiments To Buy & Avoid – Ketchup, Mayo, Dressing And More!

Condiments to buy and avoid

If you’re struggling to lose weight, the problem might not be the food you’re eating, but what you’re putting on your food.

There are a lot of hidden sugars and fats in popular brands of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and even salad dressings. There are also rancid oils that can not only cause you to gain weight, but also cause a lot of inflammation.

Ketchup

Have you ever wondered why ketchup makes your hot dog or burger taste so much better? It’s all of the added sugar!

Cane sugar makes ketchup taste good, but it’s going to contribute to weight gain and spike your insulin.

We may give up a lot of flavor, but choosing ketchups without cane sugar will help keep your weight down.

Mustard

Djon and honey mustard are really low in carbohydrates, but can still add a lot of flavor to your food.

They both make great alternatives to more carb-heavy mustards, and can help you cut sugar out of your diet.

Mayonnaise

The number one problem with mayo is the amount of oils in it. Many brands contain canola and soybean oil, which are rancid oils that cause inflammation, high cholesterol, and bad digestion.

One brand that I like to use is Primal Kitchen, which is made with avocado oil. Avocado oil is a stable oil that helps you burn fat and doesn’t contain added sugars or ingredients.

Salad Dressings

Dressings like Hidden Valley may taste good, but they’re very hard on your system. They contain soybean oil, which congests your cells and liver, and adds weight.

Avocado-based dressings are ideal, which Fresh Kitchen sells as well. Another good brand for salad dressings is Bragg, which uses non-GMO, USDA-organic apple cider vinegar.

When looking at sunflower oil-based dressings, if the sunflower oil is organic or high oleic, then it’s okay to consume. Otherwise, it’s high linoleic sunflower oil, which is the unstable, rancid kind.

Summary

When you start to learn what you should and shouldn’t buy, it makes being healthier a lot easier.

Getting bad oils out of the system lowers inflammation and improves your metabolism, brain, and gut health.

When you’re looking at any condiments that you’re putting on your foods, look at the sugars and oils on the back of them, and try to make sure you’re getting healthy products.
