Is Flavored Water Toxic?
Share
At first glance, flavored water seems like a tasty, healthy way to get more water with zero calories, until you look at the label.
In this blog, I will cover the flavored waters you should be avoided, as well as my favorites that you can drink in order to avoid harm.
Ingredients to Watch Out For
Preservatives
- Propylene Glycerol: This is a discoloration agent that bleaches your system and is used in things like antifreeze
- Sorbate: This is an anti-mold preservative and a harmful chemical.
Flavorings
Artificial
Artificial flavors are pure chemicals that trick your nervous system and body into adding more weight. Avoid these at all costs.
Natural
Natural flavors need to be approached with skepticism. If it’s a trustworthy company that doesn’t use chemicals and the flavoring is non-genetically modified, it’s good to drink.
Colorings
Different types of dyes like reds, blues, and yellows are linked to allergies, hypertensive disorders.
Sweeteners
Sweeteners are sneaky, and we don’t always see them in our products.
- Sucralose: A neurotoxin that’s going to mimic hormones and creates a lot of chemical disruption.
- Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K): A neurotoxin frequently found in flavored waters.
- Nutrasweet and Aspartame: Both contain excitotoxins that can excite brain cells to death.
You should be avoiding any flavored waters that contain any of these. I recommend diffusion in order to get the flavor in your water while adding extra benefits.
Alternatives To Flavored Water
Here are some ingredients that I like to diffuse into my water:
- Cucumber: Adds electrolytes, potassium, and several other nutrients.
- Lemon – Prevents and breaks down kidney stones while supporting liver function.
- Fruits: These give you plenty of antioxidants, especially berries.
- Electrolyte Powder: You can also add an electrolyte powder, as long as it’s only sweetened with monk fruit or stevia. The powder that I use has herbs and vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium, and flavor my water with either lemonade or strawberry lemonade.
- Greens Powder: You can also add a greens powder to your water, or just juice greens and add that to your water.
These waters also have the benefit of helping you lose weight. Check out one detox weight-loss water recipe in my video here.
