Your Diet Is Making You Old – Here’s How To Fix It
Share
Do you look and feel twice your age? You may not be getting old, you could just have a bad diet. In this blog, I’m going to tell you the 5 foods and 1 hydration issue that are proven to cause premature aging.
Hydrogenated & Trans Fat Oils
If you pick up a snack in the grocery store, chances are, it’s going to have one of the following:
- Soybean oil
- Cotton seed oil
- Canola oil
These are all rancid oils that congest the cells and turn into unhealthy fat or trans fat. Trans fats have been linked to obesity rates.
Nonetheless, people continue to choose foods that are loaded with these oils such as:
- Potato chips
- Baked goods
- Fast food
If you flip these products over and read the label on the back of them, they could be labeled as trans-fat-free. In reality, according to Male Clinic, as long as there is less than 0.5 trans fat in one single serving, it can be labeled as trans-fat-free.
The serving size can be manipulated and can still have trans fats. That’s why you have to be very cautious when reading ingredient labels.
Healthy Oils
If you squeeze food and oil come out, then it’s a good oil to use. Some of the best ones to use are:
- Olive
- Avocado
- Coconut
These oils are going to be much more stable than hydrogenated oils, and aren’t going to create bad fats and discomfort in your body. You’re going to feel like your younger self if you stick to healthy oils.
Margarine
One of the biggest culprits of premature aging when it comes to hydrogenated and trans fats is margarine. You’re better off just having butter.
Margarine has 15 grams of trans fats versus 3.3 in butter. Margarine is made out of very unstable hydrogenated oils that accelerate the discomfort process in the body. It will also cause you to gain weight, spike your cholesterol levels, and raise your blood pressure.
This is why it’s very important to watch what type of fats we’re putting in our bodies.
High-Fructose Corn Syrup
High-fructose corn syrup is directly related to metabolic conditions, such as fatty liver, excess weight, high blood pressure, and high levels of triglycerides.
Metabolic syndrome is exploding in the United States and around the world, and it’s primarily due to high fructose corn syrup.
You can find high-fructose corn syrup in some tempting foods you may be eating such as:
- Ketchup
- Sodas
- Packaged goods
These all contain a concentrated form of sugar that if injected into your arm, would kill you.
When you eat these sugars, it doesn’t kill you immediately, it just ages you prematurely and kills you slowly.
It’s high-fructose corn syrup that makes a simple bottle of soda with 17 grams of sugar. These levels of concentrated sugar are a heavy load on your liver.
A bogged-down liver is sure to cause premature aging.
70 million Americans are now dealing with liver illness because of the rising intake of sugar, and of high-fructose corn syrup in particular.
Dr. Mark Hyman, the director of Cleveland’s Clinical Center for Functional Medicine, stated that high fructose corn syrup accelerates aging.
You should avoid high-fructose corn syrup because it’s quadrupling the amount of sugar going into your body.
Refined Salt
Not all salt is bad, but refined salt is a major contributor to premature aging. A lot of people blame salt for:
- Hypertension Problems
- Blood Pressure Problems
- Heart Failure
- Kidney Problems
- Water Retention
- Stomach Problems
You can try to stay away from it, but it’s in every packaged good that we eat for snacks, like chips and crackers to pasta. Fast food is loaded with refined salt.
Salt in general is not the problem. Your body needs salt to balance fluids in your body, and run muscles to power your heart.
A study compared people with low sodium levels to those that had moderate and high sodium levels.
They found that the highest level of heart-related deaths, diseases, and problems was in the low salt intake group, followed by those in the high salt intake group.
The group that had the best heart outcomes were those that were getting the right amount of salt.
You should still avoid things like ramen noodles, which have 700 milligrams of processed salt but try getting healthy salts in.
Eating things like cucumbers and putting sea salt on your food gives your body the minerals that it needs to power the heart and muscles.
Processed Meat
Meat is not bad for you at all. You just need to be sure that you’re eating clean meat. Packaged meat is what gets you in trouble.
Processed meats like deli meats, bacon, and sausage have heavy amounts of preservatives that are detrimental to health.
Anything that’s put into the food nitrates to make it look red, is going to speed up the aging process.
Meats in general have been linked to heart problems, but a lot of that has to do with the quality of the meat. Conventional meat has far more omega 6s than omega 3s, which is going to cause discomfort
When you get grass-fed meat, the amount of omega 6s is much closer to the ratio of omega 3s, which reduces discomfort.
If the animal you get your meat from is healthy, you’re healthy.
Sometimes animals are fed so much grain and pumped full of so many hormones that they begin to get sick. That same process can happen to you if you pick the wrong types of dairy and meat.
Avoid processed meats, avoid meats full of chemicals, and look for grass-fed, free-range, wild-caught, and nitrite-free meats. These are going to protect your body from premature aging.
Dehydration
Dehydration has to do with more than the amount of water that you’re taking in. It can be the result of too much alcohol, soda, coffee, or tea. We’re 70% water, and most of us are very dehydrated but don’t even know it.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, chances are you’re not getting enough water in your system:
- Fatigue
- Fuzzy memory
- Fuzzy thinking
- Concentration problems
- Muscle problems
- Muscle discomfort
- Stiffness
- Feeling old
You can start to fix this by drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces per day. But how do we really get to the root cause of our dehydration and start to fix it?
If you’re interested in feeling less stiff, more energetic, and way better than what your age says, then check out my video covering dehydration and how there are more factors than just water intake in combating dehydration.
