How To Get Rid Of Acne: 5 Overnight Remedies To Try At Home
Share
Are you dealing with acne that just won’t go away?
I’m going to show you how to get rid of acne within a week’s time. This article covers five solutions that can make that happen, and they don’t involve toxins or creams that can leave you in a worse place long term.
Most of us have dealt with acne in our lifetime, whether it’s blackheads, pimples, a cyst, or a pustule.
Most people try to get rid of acne with special face creams that contain benzoyl peroxide, a chemical compound primarily used to treat acne. I was a biochem minor in my undergraduate years, and this stuff is made in a laboratory. We had a shower in the laboratory because benzoyl peroxide can cause:
- Redness
- Tearing of the eyes
- Runny nose
- Coughing
- Difficulty breathing
Another ingredient used in a lot of acne creams is salicylic acid. This is another one we used in the laboratory quite a bit. Exposure to it long-term can create toxicity, especially for those with kidney issues.
What are some things we can do to clear up our skin in a healthy, natural way?
5 Solutions That Will Make Your Skin Look And Feel Better
Water
Water cleanses the pores. Water is especially important for dry skin. The active ingredients in acne creams, soaps, and serums will dry your skin out. So it’s vital to drink enough water to combat this.
You should drink half your body weight in ounces per day. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs, you should drink 100 ounces of water per day.
Decrease Insulin
I’m not talking about diabetes. The everyday person in America traditionally has significant insulin spikes because of the way we eat. Our diets are full of high glycemic index foods that consist of primarily carbs and sugar.
The load that this puts on us really increases the toxicity of our skin. Not only that, but these processed foods contain chemicals, artificial flavorings, and oils that make our glands and our cells more toxic.
The more glycemic, sugary foods that we eat, the more scars we’ll have when it comes to acne.
Studies have shown that those people with a high glycemic index have significantly more acne and blemishes.
We need to focus on lower glycemic and carbohydrate foods. Whether you want to eat a vegetarian, carnivorous, or anti-inflammatory diet, you need to make sure that it’s not too high in sugar.
The skin is the body’s largest organ. Its health is a big reflection of how healthy your organs are overall. If you’re having problems there, chances are that something’s going on inside.
Fasting, such as intermittent fasting or rotational fasting, also helps reduce inflammation in the skin, which reduces acne.
If you need help with fasting, there are resources to help you get started.
Cut Dairy
Dairy has been a huge focus in health-related studies. Dairy increases acne indirectly by spiking our insulin.
It also contains antibiotics and hormones, which are going to disrupt the way your skin is designed to function.
Insulin produces extra fat inside of the system, which may contribute more to acne development than the actual fat or dairy itself.
I recommend cutting out sources of dairy such as sour cream, cheese, butter, and milk. You don’t have to cut these out permanently, but cutting them out will help clear up your skin.
Omegas
We want healthy forms of oil, especially those coming from fish oils. We want to increase our omega-3s and decrease our toxic omega-6s.
We don’t want to totally eliminate omega-6s, but we typically don’t get enough of omega-3s to create a healthy balance.
If you want to get more omega-3s in your diet, my favorite forms of omega-3 are quality fish.
Sources of Omega-3s:
- Cod
- Tuna
- Herring
- Sardines
- Supplements
Sources of Healthy Omega 6-s:
- Pumpkin seeds
- Sunflower seeds
Get a good balance of both of these to benefit your skin and how it looks.
Probiotics
Probiotics are good bacteria inside your gut. Recent research into the effects of probiotics that were administered to individuals with acne presented really promising results.
As long as you take in good fermented bacteria, your acne will clear up. Some sources of good bacteria are:
- Sauerkraut
- Apple cider vinegar
- Kefir
I like to use prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to get the full effect throughout the digestive system. These are good fermented bacteria, but try to stay away from dairy forms.
Just adding some sauerkraut and a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar into your diet can do wonders for your skin within a week.
DIY Recipes To Clear Up Skin
Let me give you some of my favorite topical remedies that you can whip up at home and use to treat your acne.
Green Tea
Green tea contains several substances called catechins, which are plant-based compounds.
Catechins have antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. They also attack free radicals inside the system.
Inflammation and low antibody count can both contribute to acne conditions.
Green tea is also very high in EGCG, a unique plant compound known for its positive health effects, and research shows that it can improve acne and excess oil on the skin.
Too much oil on the skin is one of the known causes of acne. EGCG in green tea helps combat that.
You can use it on your skin as well. You can take green tea, honey, and aloe and make a mask for acne that you can use at night.
Green Tea Facemask
- Steep two bags of green tea in boiling water
- As it starts to cool off, mix in honey and aloe vera
- Put the mask on acne-prone areas, or soak a cloth with it and put it on your face for 10-20 minutes
If you want to use it more like a paste, you could add some baking soda to it. But you want to be very careful with that because baking soda can irritate and dry out your skin.
You can also try a spray. This is a bit more convenient: you prepare the green tea, steep it, let it cool, then fill a spray bottle with the cold tea.
You can also add an ounce of silver serum.
Silver Serum
Now, since silver serum is colloidal silver, it’s antimicrobial and antifungal. So it’s very good for the skin.
However, a lot of forms on the market can cause a build-up in your body and create some problems. Our silver serum has colloidal silver imprinted into the structure of water; it’s a patented technology.
Silver serum doesn’t expire, it’s stable, and can be used really simply.
- Gently spray the silver serum onto the skin
- Let it dry for 10-20 minutes.
If you prefer, you can use a cotton pad and dab the silver serum on your acne.
I recommend using green tea and the silver serum facial spray a couple of times a week. I wouldn’t use silver serum every day, and the same goes for the green tea facemask.
Summary
Within a week, you can see changes in your skin. Within a week, you can start seeing that vibrance come back, and blemishes go down and start making some progress because you are the solution.
