Top Pantry Items From Walmart
Share
Even if you’re on a budget, you can still get some really healthy things from Walmart.
Your pantry items can make a massive difference in your blood sugar levels, toxicity, and weight loss.
I’m going to go over some healthy alternatives to common pantry items that you can look for when shopping.
Flour
I try to avoid wheat-based and other regular flours. There’s a lot of gluten and sprayed chemicals that end up going on those that get into the gut and create permeability issues.
This can also lead to autoimmune-related conditions.
If you’re one of 50 million Americans that are suffering from a thyroid or digestive problem, you have to start taking care of your gut.
Switching to alternative flours is a great way to start minimizing and getting ahead of it.
You can find a giant bag of almond flour at Walmart for a good price that will last you a long time.
The only ingredient is almond flour, and it’s non-GMO, so the almonds weren’t sprayed with any toxins or genetically altered.
If you have a sensitivity to nuts or almonds, you can also use coconut flour, which can also be found for a really good price at Walmart and is great for baking.
There’s only organic coconut flour in there, which means non-GMO.
Again, that means no chemicals, no pesticides, and no genetically modified ingredients.
There are chickpea and cauliflower blends as well, which you could also try out as alternatives to regular flours.
Noodles
When we buy noodles, we want to be sure that we’re not taking in wheat, gluten, or chemicals, so we have to look for noodles made from beans instead of wheat.
I found noodles that are made from chickpeas, tapioca, and pea starch, and are non-GMO.
With the beans, you’re going to get a way higher amount of fiber.
The carb intake is around 60 grams, which is lower than your typical noodle.
You can subtract the amount of fiber that you get in them from that total carb number.
It also has 20 grams of protein, which is way more than is found in wheat pasta.
You’re getting healthy fibers, which can help the digestive system, and you’re not getting the gluten that’s involved with wheat a lot of the time.
There are also rice noodles that cut out all the gluten and the herbicide glyphosate, and contain only organic brown rice, flour, and water.
With a rice noodle, you are going to get a little bit of a carb spike, so it’s higher-impact than the bean noodles.
If you haven’t hit your weight goals, your insulin is still spiking, or you’re trying to get off of medications for blood pressure, cholesterol, or diabetes, you may not want to have any pasta.
Beans
Beans are an excellent source of magnesium. If you’re reading this, chances are you’re deficient in magnesium, because it gets depleted very quickly.
You can get USDA organic beans for less than $2 a can at Walmart.
They contain nothing but black beans, water, and sea salt.
You’re going to get carbs, but they’re really high in fiber, which you can subtract out the carbs.
You can also turn them into hummus, put them on a salad, or you can do what my kids do and eat them straight out of the can.
You can also get chickpeas, otherwise known as garbanzo beans.
These are also USDA organic, less than $2 a can, and made with real sea salt.
Chickpeas are also good for hummus, and they’re also good to combine with veggies as a healthy snack.
Soy Sauce
One of my favorite soy sauce alternatives that I keep in my pantry is Bragg’s Liquid Aminos.
It’s gluten-free, made with soybean, and non-GMO.
If you’re going to have soy, it had better be non-GMO.
We use this all the time in stir fry, and it still has a good soy sauce flavor without all the chemicals in it.
If you’ve ever bought produce, you know it goes bad very quickly, which is why my family makes stir fry so often.
You can easily freeze broccoli or cauliflower in a baggie and throw it in a stir fry with some of your noodles and this soy sauce alternative.
You save a lot of money by using that hack with your produce.
Canned Milk
Whether I’m making a smoothie or a pudding, I like to use coconut milk in a can.
The reason I do this is that the canned milk is full-fat and doesn’t have other additives to it that you’ll find in a carton form.
You can get coconut milk that is non-GMO and has no BPA (chemical used primarily in plastics manufacturing), which a lot of canned food has, for a good price.
This is dairy-free and has coconut water and guar gum, which helps with consistency.
If you get canned coconut milk, shake it up before you use it.
You can use half a can of it in a smoothie to take in healthy fats and create healthy cells that allow for detoxification and normal blood sugar levels.
Chocolate
I like to get Lily’s Chocolate Baking Chips. My family loves them because they’re made with sugar alcohols, so it’s not going to spike insulin.
They also contain cocoa butter, milk, dextrin, chicory root, and fiber. There’s a prebiotic in there and it’s colored with beetroot and spirulina.
It also has sea salt and stevia which means it’s sugar free, and has no artificial colors or sweeteners.
These are perfect snacks for kids if you have them, and you can even use them to make some baked goods!
You can still enjoy chocolate and pantry items without all the guilt, because you’re not spiking your insulin levels.
Salt
A lot of us get way too much processed salt because we shop on the inside aisles of the store, and that’s where you’re going to get packaged goods with processed salt.
One of the main things you can do for your pantry is to switch out your salt the next time it gets low.
You want a high-quality salt that’s going to give you 50+ minerals and nutrients and the electrolytes that your body craves.
Walmart has some really cost-effective options for salt. Great Value Himalayan pink sea salt is a good option, and the only ingredient is pink salt.
You can also get a grinder to get the nutrients and minerals inside of your body.
Your body needs real salt, not processed salt.
Seasonings
Be careful if you’re shopping for pepper, because the ones that I found use sugar and an anti-caking agent that is a toxin in the body.
They also use sunflower oil which is rancid, and extracts of paprika and natural flavor.
I would just try to find some organic seasonings like rosemary, garlic, nutmeg, oregano, or onion powders.
Walmart does have a great selection of those.
Summary
The key for these pantry items is that they’re not going to be irradiated.
Pantry items are often irradiated before they’re made so that they don’t get bacteria involved with them.
If you get USDA organic and non-GMO products, that means they don’t have chemicals and aren’t genetically modified, even when it comes to the bacteria.
They just do a better job of protecting them, and let’s be honest, we don’t go through these spices that often, so it’s worth spending just a little bit more.
At Walmart you can get really decent pantry items for incredible prices, so you can be healthy even if you’re on a budget.
If you need help shopping around the store, check out this video that I made taking you through it and showing you what to look for.
I also have a book called Make Food Simple that can help you along your journey to experience real health.
