Answering Your 5 Supplement Questions
Share
Let’s be honest: with the incredible amount of information out there, understanding what vitamins and supplements are the real deal can be an overwhelming task.
So today, let’s dive deep into the often confusing world of supplements by answering your most common questions!
Should I Take Vitamins While I’m Fasting?
Absolutely, Yes. Continue your vitamin regimen during fasting.
Unless your specific medication has a food requirement (always check with your pharmacist first) taking your supplements without food should not be a problem.
*One word of caution, though: be careful with B vitamins: They may cause nausea on an empty stomach.
What Are the Most Important Supplements to Start With?
You don’t have to start with every supplement on the planet! While you’re building out your vitamin routine, here are the Top 5 I always recommend for the maximum health impact.
1: Vitamin D Plus Immune Complex
This is a combination of high-dose vitamin D with other fat-soluble vitamins like A, E, and K2 which are extremely important to the body’s ability to create energy and break down fat. As well, this includes magnesium and zinc, which are critical for brain function and hormone regulation.
2: Omegas + Turmeric
This is primarily to knock out inflammation in the body. Turmeric is well known for its benefits to the circulatory system, helping blood flow and reducing inflammation. Omegas, especially Omega 3’s, are also needed for brain function and muscle repair.
3: Collagen + Multi
Most known for its skin and hair benefits: collagen is the building block of protein in the body. With its abundance of amino acids and healthy proteins, a good collagen multivitamin is absolutely necessary for protecting your skin, hair, and muscles.
4: Electrolyte Mix
Often overlooked, electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, salt, and chlorine are what makes the body’s ability to transmit information possible. They are the catalysts of your body’s chemical reactions, so having enough is critical to maintaining stable energy and healing.
5: Greens Powder
Bluntly: We simply don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Both us (and our usually picky kids) tend to fall short of the mark when it comes to getting the right dosage of fiber, minerals, and vitamins from leafy greens. I suggest picking up a greens powder that you can easily sneak into smoothies or mix into other food you’re already enjoying.
Which is the Best Supplement for Pain?
I always recommend Omegas+ Turmeric to help with pain. By reducing inflammation, it can help with various ailments.
What Should I Do for Rising Blood Pressure?
Some natural supports I always recommend are hawthorn, pomegranate, garlic, and beetroot. These can be found in my Greens Powder, but hawthorn in particular also creates a great-tasting tea.
Can You Overdose on Supplements?
While yes, it is possible to overdose on anything (even water!) the amount you would have to take would be far greater than the average person would use in a sitting. Chances are, you are at far more risk of overdosing on chemicals, seed oils, or other negative elements present in our environments than supplements.
If you are worried, however, a good strategy is consolidating your supplements. It’s why my Greens Powder has 50+ superfoods, so you can get all the vitamins you need without having to take them in fifty separate concentrated pills. Finding good combinations and multivitamins can ensure you never approach ‘overdose’ levels.
The Final Takeaway
While getting started with supplements can be intimidating, understanding what is best for you just takes access to the right information. I hope this clears up some of the misconceptions around getting the most out of your health!
