The Best Chicken You Can Find At Walmart
Share
If you’re anything like me, you love eating chicken. I love ground ground, chicken drumsticks, and chicken breasts.
The problem is that you can get a lot of toxicity from these if you don’t pick the right ones.
You can get healthy, clean chicken from Walmart at a great price; you just have to know which one to pick.
Now, you can avoid a lot of unhealthy options just by looking at the front of the packaging.
I’m going to go over what we’re really looking for when it comes to chicken breasts.
Organic Chicken
The first thing I look for is the USDA certified organic sticker.
If we can get it organic, that means the chicken itself was fed a proper diet. It also means that it isn’t genetically modified, which I’ll talk about later.
When we see the organic symbol, we know the chicken was fed well.
It also means the chicken wasn’t given steroids to make the bird grow bigger, hormones to help them grow bigger, or antibiotics to make sure they don’t get sick.
If the packaging doesn’t have the organic symbol, then I’m looking for no antibiotics ever.
If it says vegetarian diet, that really doesn’t matter that much, but if it says no animal byproducts, they’ve paid attention to whether anything was done to the chicken.
Pasture-Raised Chicken
On some chicken farms, there are 10,000 birds in a building. However, they could classify those as free-range if they have even limited access to the outdoors.
If you let a chicken go in the wild, it’s going to eat bugs, which is its natural diet. So what you really want to see on a package of chicken is pasture-raised.
That means the chickens were able to roam and go anywhere they wanted. That’s going to be the healthiest of the birds.
Non-GMO Chicken
The next thing you want to watch out for is whether the chickens were fed genetically modified feed.
That’s why I like to see the USDA organic symbol, because it means the chicken was not fed arsenic or genetically modified foods.
You want non-GMO food because you don’t want to be genetically modified and you don’t want your kids to be genetically modified.
Summary
There are some great healthy options that check these boxes at Walmart, and you can get them for $6-7 for two pounds of meat.
If you go into a health food store, prices could be almost double that.
Even if the packaging doesn’t say organic, try to meet some of those standards when it comes to choosing chicken for great prices at Walmart.
